AIS Individual Portfolio
For my Individual Portfolio, I decided to focus on Social Responsibility because I wanted to learn more about my major, Environmental Studies, which ties into that topic.
During the exploration of this theme, I learned that there is a good variety of ways to get involved on campus with other people who also want to positively impact the environment. For example there are various clubs such as the Botany Club, Entomology Club, and the Green Society Club. There are also many events to get a good word in with potential organizations such as the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
Events and Impacts
On September 16th, I joined the UTSA Green Society with a trash cleanup underneath a bridge minutes away from campus. In total, approximately 800 pounds of trash was cleaned up.
These were various events organized by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. I attended the Meet and Greet event on October 12th. While I was there I spoke to David Brittan and got his contact information in order to make a connection to help me with a job or internship in the future. I also attended the service opportunity on October 13th with a couple friends. I helped for an hour pulling weeds in front of the Mesquite Living Lab.
In this photo, I was on a hike with the Green Society at the Eisenhower Park about 10 minutes away from UTSA. We did this on September 10th. Although this doesn't directly tie into social responsibility, it was a great way to connect and to stay healthy by spending some time outside.
Research
In order to learn more about what social responsibility looks like today, I looked a few sources. See my annotated bibliography to learn more. I learned a lot about how social media and the pandemic has effected modern day environmental advocacy.
Helpful Tools I Used
The main skills I used during this project is my social skills. Most of the ways I decided to learn more about Social Responsibility was by going to events. This calls for me to apply my social skills to build connects with important people. It's called "social" responsibility, being able to connect with your community is an important aspect to sparking change. I also used my time management tools in order to correctly plan my day to be able to attend said events. Being able to plan your day to get what you need to get done and still leave time for eating is very important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
Continuing Education...
In my case, continuing to learn about Social Responsibility will be easy because it is so closely tied into my major. This research has made me more confident about my choice on my major. As I continue talking classes and working towards my degree I will learn many new things about Social Responsibility and other topics related to that.
